Introducing the 4Life Explorers Programme- a nurturing and developmentally focused learning space
A nurturing, developmentally focused learning space for Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2
From June, we are excited to launch 4Life Explorers, a brand‑new early primary provision based at the Genesis Centre in Alfreton. This specialist room has been created for pupils who are at earlier stages of development and may present with barriers to learning, SEND needs, or the impact of trauma. Our aim is to offer a calm, predictable and highly supportive environment where young learners can reconnect with education at a pace that feels safe and achievable.
A Skills-Based, Developmentally Appropriate Approach
At the heart of 4Life Explorers is an adapted Skills Builder curriculum, designed to develop the essential skills children need both for learning and for life.
Our curriculum is centred around eight key skills.
These skills provide the foundations for communication, independence, relationships, emotional development and successful participation in everyday life.
The eight skills are explicitly taught, practised and revisited throughout the curriculum. Functional English and maths, science, physical development, life skills and other areas of learning are woven naturally through Skills Builder sessions and the wider provision. Children are given repeated opportunities to develop a skill, practise it with increasing independence and then apply it in different contexts. This helps children understand that the skills they develop can be used across different situations, both in school and beyond.
The curriculum is brought to life through our 4Life Explorers Map — a world of different places, characters and challenges designed to make learning memorable, meaningful and engaging.
Each area of the map represents one of our eight key skills, with a friendly character to help children recognise, remember and celebrate the skill they are developing.
