A nurturing, developmentally focused learning space for Key Stage 1 and Lower Key Stage 2
From June, we are excited to launch 4Life Explorers, a brand‑new early primary provision based at the Genesis Centre in Alfreton. This specialist room has been created for pupils who are at earlier stages of development and may present with barriers to learning, SEND needs, or the impact of trauma. Our aim is to offer a calm, predictable and highly supportive environment where young learners can reconnect with education at a pace that feels safe and achievable.
Learning within the Explorers room is delivered through a continuous provision model, inspired by Early Years practice. This allows pupils to explore, play, investigate and learn through hands‑on experiences, while still maintaining meaningful links to National Curriculum subjects where appropriate.
Our curriculum is underpinned by the Skills Builder Framework, with a strong focus on:
This approach ensures that every child’s social, emotional and cognitive development is supported alongside their academic progress.
The Explorers room will be led by a qualified teacher, supported by an experienced member of support staff. With a maximum of three pupils per day, we are able to offer exceptionally high staff‑to‑pupil ratios and truly personalised provision tailored to each child’s needs.
Pupils accessing the Explorers Programme will benefit from:
These features help us create a holistic learning experience that supports emotional wellbeing, sensory regulation and meaningful engagement with the world around them.
We hope the 4Life Explorers Programme will provide a safe, nurturing and developmentally aligned pathway for pupils who require a more flexible and individualised approach to early primary learning.
If you would like to discuss suitability for a pupil or arrange a conversation with our team, we would be very happy to help.
